Acne
Acne can be a persistent and troubling skin condition for many. Much of this stems from the fact that acne is most commonly first experienced during adolescence. However, this is not always the case and people who have gone their entire lives blemish-free can begin experiencing acne once they reach their twenties, thirties or even forties. Acne is caused when hair follicles are clogged and fill with sebum (oil). The P. acnes bacterium, which is normally found in the skin, congregates and propagates in this collected sebum, causing blemishes, blackheads and breakouts.
There are a number of effective treatments for acne, depending on severity, location (body or face) and specific type of breakouts. Common acne treatments include benzoyl peroxide, gycolic acid, salicylic acid and sulfur.
